Mokume Gane Colorful Earrings
Item 2476. Dimensions: 14.4mm wide x 30.0mm long for the clay piece only, see scale photo for conversion to inches. Super lightweight on the ears. These are the exact earrings you will receive, they are one-of-a-kind.
Technique: Mokume-Gane (pronounced moe-koo-may-gah-nay) is a traditional Japanese method for laminating various colors/layers of metals together and manipulating them to create patterns resembling wood grain. I used multiple color layers of polymer clay to achieve a similar effect. The layers of colors are compressed with texturing objects and then the top-most layers are shaved off with a tissue blade to reveal complex patterns. I’ll then cut and form the jewelry pieces. I also design and 3D-print my own cutters! Earrings have been sealed 2x on backs and then I added a UV resin to shine up the fronts to a glass-like finish.
Ear Wires & Gift Wrap: Sterling silver-filled French style earring hooks (with rubber stoppers included) complete the look. If you have any metal sensitivities, I can swap out the ear wires for surgical stainless steel — leave note with your order. Your earrings will be carefully packed with a technique info sheet in tissue wrap and tucked into a very pretty organza drawstring gift bag (bag styles will vary.) Ready for gift-giving: yourself ;-) or others!
